Many of Mark Birnbaum’s compositions were melodic songs without words. They
expressed the simple sentiments of their titles: “Child of the Stars,” and
“Star of the Silver Sun” for example. Others were more complex. Ominous
repeated notes in the bass introduced “Lucifer Rising” and trembling octaves
brought Lucifer to the conflagration; “Moon of the Falling Star” was full of
pregnant pauses and melodrama.
